New Architecture in South Tyrol
2000-2006
Feb. 04. _ Apr. 17, 2006
Especially in the nineties, the South Tyrolean architectural
scene underwent an enormous upturn in all parts of the state.
For a long time, however, this creative scene went unnoticed
by the global media. In the aftermath of the international
prize for Neues Bauen in den Alpen [modern building in the
Alps] from Sexten Kultur, however, the interest in the architecture
of this region grew. Reason enough to develop a first comprehensive
exhibition and up-to-date documentation on building in South
Tyrol.
The exhibition and the accompanying book document 48 buildings,
examine the architectural activities under various aspects
(e. g. residential buildings, schools, cultural facilities,
and traffic buildings), and confidently show the differences
as compared to other Alpine regions.
It is the anniversaries "10 years kunst Meran"
and "60 years Südtiroler Künstlerbund"
[South Tyrolean association of artists] that gave rise to
the publication and the walking exhibition.
